Unnatural History: An Evening with CT Cryptids & Create Your Own Cryptid Collage

Step into the strange side of Connecticut with CT Cryptids and meet writer Patrick Scalisi and artist Valerie Ruby-Omen, the creative team behind the stories and illustrations. You’ll hear about some of the state’s most mysterious creatures, local legends, and reported sightings, then create and frame a cryptid of your very own using collage.

Come hear the stories, meet the people bringing Connecticut’s cryptids to life, and make a creature that could have its own place in the archives.

What You’ll Do

During this workshop, participants will:

• Meet writer Patrick Scalisi and artist Valerie Ruby-Omen of CT Cryptids

• Hear strange stories and reported sightings of Connecticut cryptids

• Learn about some of the legends and folklore surrounding mysterious creatures in Connecticut

• Explore images, papers, and found materials to create your own original cryptid

• Experiment with collage, layering, and mixed-media techniques

• Create and frame your finished cryptid collage

• Leave with an original piece of cryptid art ready to display

Skill Level: Beginner

Age: 16+ recommended

Just bring yourself — everything else is provided.

Good to Know

• No previous collage or art experience is needed.

• Your cryptid can be cute, creepy, mysterious, ridiculous—or somewhere in between.

• Space is limited to keep the workshop hands-on and supportive.

• We’ll be working with paper, glue, and other mixed-media materials, so wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy.
