Make It Glow: Paper Lantern Decorating

Spend an evening turning a simple paper lantern into something completely your own. In this hands-on decorating workshop, you'll transform a 12-inch paper lantern using a curated collection of decorative papers, patterns, textures, and embellishments.

Once you're finished, your lantern will be ready to light up your space — each participant will take home their decorated lantern with a light included.

Whether you want something moody and autumnal, colorful and playful, or totally unexpected, you'll have plenty of materials and inspiration to create a lantern that feels like you. No art experience necessary — just come ready to experiment, make something with your hands, and have a good night.

What You'll Do

During this workshop, participants will:

• Decorate and customize a 12-inch paper lantern

• Experiment with collage, layering, cutting, and paper embellishment

• Explore color, pattern, texture, and composition

• Work with a variety of decorative papers and materials

• Learn simple techniques for creating dimension and visual interest

• Connect with fellow creatives in a relaxed, welcoming environment

• Leave with a finished, illuminated lantern to take home

Just yourself! All materials needed to create your lantern are included.

If you have a particular color palette, image, or personal paper ephemera you'd love to incorporate, you're welcome to bring it along.

Good to Know

There’s no single right way to decorate your lantern. We'll share techniques and ideas to get you started, but you'll have plenty of freedom to make it your own.

No experience necessary, and no pressure to be “good” at art. Come make something you'll actually want to keep.
